Guest houses offer a fun opportunity to be playful. When our clients approached us to design a new outbuilding that would blend with the rest of their property from the exterior, but create on the interior an environment that would transport their guests back to the mid-century era, we jumped at the challenge. A walnut paneled wall anchors one side of the one-room space, hiding a secret door to a jewel-like bathroom with every feature one would expect of the era: Glossy tile wainscoting, a sliding mirrored medicine cabinet, and boomerangs on the countertop. The whimsy continues in the Kitchen, where a bright Marmoleum floor and a colorful backsplash jump out against the painted cabinetry. Vintage fixtures and furniture enrich the sensation that Lucy and Desi are just next door.
